Last weekend we went on a hiking trip to Trolltunga. We went by car to our Airbnb in Odda, a super beautiful town close to Bergen. We left Kristiansand on Friday and went hiking on Saturday.
On Friday afternoon I left work one hour earlier to go on a trip with my German friends to go hiking to Trolltunga. The weather in Kristiansand started already to be very rainy and windy but as we went further up in Norway the rain stopped and we had amazing views on our way. I really love to see the Norwegian nature. It's amazing to see all the big lakes directly next to the street and all the forests and high mountains. We had a small break at a waterfall and a lake on our way to Odda and reached our Airbnb in the late afternoon. There we met our friends who came in another car an hour earlier. They had already started to prepare pasta for our dinner and after having dinner together we decided to get up the next morning at 4am to get ready and to drive to the parking spot in Trolltunga. There are two parking spots and we wanted to reach the upper one. We knew that we had to be there very early to reach it but in the end we where the third car which couldn't go up anymore so we had to stay on the parking downstairs. We started our hike at 6am and it was still quite dark but soon the sun came out.
The first four kilometers we walked a serpentine mountain road up to the other parking spot which wasn't that interesting but after four kilometers we reached the real hiking trip. At this point we took this photo on the left and then we started with the more exciting part of the hike. The weather started to turn into more and more rain and wind and it was quite hard to walk up the mountain under this conditions. But we were prepared for this with rain gear because we checked the weather forecast the evening before. Sooner the weather got better and better.
At ten o'clock more or less the rain stopped and soon we reached the top where we had a stunning view at the top of the mountain:
We had to wait a quite long time to take our photos at the top of Trolltunga and it was freezing cold up there but it was worth it. Trolltunga is 1100 meters above sealevel and you have to walk 14 kilometers to get there. The view was great and we took some photos and had some food. It was the last weekend that people could go without a guide to Trolltunga because in autumn and winter it can be very dangerous. So there were many people. Also, a lot of Erasmus students from Kristiansand went there that day.
After taking some photos at the top we started to walk back again because it was getting very cold and we had to move to stay warm. So we had to walk the 14 kilometers back again. The sun came out and it was very beautiful although it started to get a bit exhausting.
On the way back we took some breaks to have food and enjoy the sun.
28 kilometers and many hours later we reached the car again and went back to our Airbnb to take a shower and have dinner together. We were all tired but this experience was definitely worth it.
On our way back we stopped to see some waterfalls and a glacier.
